Office Design in Waltham, MA: Exact Software
Designing an Open-Style Collaborative Work Environment
After choosing a loft-style mill building in Waltham, MA, for their United States headquarters, Exact Software sought to design an office with a fun, inviting atmosphere. Working from new construction, it was important to consider possible company growth in the space planning. JCI office designer Briana McGrade field measured the space and provided two layouts for the company, which included a plan for their current needs and a growth plan for the future. Both layouts involved an open-style layout that encourages collaboration, while allowing for the privacy needed for efficiency. This space includes professional bullpen-style stations with frosted glass, featuring bright and modern seating solutions. Collaborating with the architect and construction groups, Briana was able to provide a space that incorporates the company’s unique branding and needs. She looks forward to working with Exact again in the future as they continue to grow and expand throughout New England.
The client leased an open-style mill building in Waltham, MA, which was gutted to create a modern open office environment. This section of the mill was used to create a space for individual employee workstations.
Each of the workstations is a 5′ x 6′ bullpen-style benching unit with frosted glass upmount screens and open H-legs. Using this style of workstation, we were able to create a light, open-style office with fun pops of color in the Zenergy Ball seating.
In the reception area, guests are greeted by two brightly colored Tonik chairs, which are then accented by a Global Wind side table.
This bar-height table allows for casual standing meetings or more formal meetings using the upholstered Sonic stools.

The frosted glass up-mount screens provide privacy from neighbors, while still keeping a modern open atmosphere. Each screen is attached using stainless steel clips.
Keeping with the company’s colors, this L-shaped sectional is used as an impromptu meeting space or as a cozy and bright collaborative break area.
This individual height-adjustable table (also known as a sit-stand desk) allows the user to choose to sit or stand throughout the day. It has four preset height adjustments. A mobile pedestal with cushion top is added for storage and additional seating.
